President Yoweri Museveni’s directive to empower fishing communities to lead lake management has sparked hope among Ugandans whose livelihood and cultural identity depend on these ecosystems

The African Institute for Culture and Ecology sees the directive as a chance to revive cultural governance systems

The Executive Director Tabaro Dennis Natukunda says indigenous practices such as protecting sacred sites and traditional seed varieties, often proven solution for sustainable resource management.
